Dental Implants

Our Specialized Areas of Expertise

What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are permanent, natural-looking tooth replacements designed to function just like your own teeth. They restore comfortable chewing and clear speech while helping maintain jawbone health and facial structure. Unlike removable options, implants provide a stable, long-term solution that feels secure and natural. With dental implants, you can smile, eat, and live with renewed confidence.

They are crafted from biocompatible materials that integrate with the jawbone, ensuring strength, durability, and long-term success. With proper care, dental implants can last for decades, making them a reliable investment in your oral health.

A Guide to Dental Implant Options

Different Types of Dental Implants

We offer five different types of dental implants, each designed to meet specific needs. Every treatment plan is personalized to ensure the best results for your smile. During your consultation, Dr. Jacobs will explain the available implant options and guide you in choosing the most suitable solution for you.

Endosteal Dental Implants
Endosteal dental implants are the most common type of dental implants that we offer. These are formed by a titanium screw that is inserted into the jaw. This screw goes on to serve as the replacement root for your missing tooth.
Subperiosteal Dental Implants
Patients who have insufficient bone density for regular implants can explore tooth replacement with subperiosteal dental implants. A metal framework is placed just beneath the gums to support the titanium screw.
Zygomatic Dental Implants
Zygomatic implants are ideal for people with severe bone loss in their upper jaws. These implants are longer than traditional implants, so they can connect to the zygoma (cheekbone). Placing zygomatic dental implants can be more complex than other types of dental implant surgery.
Basal implants
Basal implants, also known as cortical implants, are anchored into the dense basal bone of the jaw. This bone is stronger and does not shrink over time, making basal implants an excellent option for patients with severe bone loss.
Mini dental implants
Mini dental implants are smaller in diameter compared to traditional implants and are used when space or bone availability is limited. They are often recommended for stabilizing dentures or replacing small teeth.
All-on-4 and All-on-6 implants
All-on-4 and All-on-6 implants are advanced implant techniques used to replace an entire arch of teeth using four or six strategically placed implants. This method provides a fixed, natural-looking set of teeth and is ideal for patients who have lost most or all of their teeth.

A Complete Comparison Guide

Dental Implants vs. Dentures vs. Bridges

Factor Dental Implants Removable Dentures Bridges (FPD)
Stability Permanently fixed in the jaw, functions like a natural tooth Removable appliance, may move or loosen during eating or speaking Fixed solution, supported by neighboring teeth
Comfort Highly comfortable, no added bulk May feel bulky and require an adjustment period Generally comfortable, but pressure is transferred to supporting teeth
Bone Health Maintains jawbone strength and prevents bone loss Does not stimulate bone; bone shrinkage continues Does not protect bone at the missing tooth area
Effect on Nearby Teeth Does not involve or damage adjacent teeth No impact on surrounding teeth Requires trimming of healthy adjacent teeth for support
Longevity Designed for long-term use; can last a lifetime with proper care Typically lasts 5–7 years before replacement or adjustment Usually lasts 10–15 years depending on support teeth
Appearance Closely mimics natural teeth in look and feel Appearance may change over time due to wear Looks natural, but gum gaps may appear over time
Maintenance Cleaned like natural teeth with brushing and flossing Must be removed daily for cleaning Needs special care to clean underneath
Initial Cost Higher upfront investment, cost-effective long term Most affordable initial option Moderately priced
Overall Advantage Most natural, durable, and health-friendly solution Economical and quick solution Fixed option but compromises natural teeth
